for final checking by the Project Manager or Project Engineer prior to release
to QC or Peer Review department.
The
Plumbing Design Review Guide includes over (140) pages and spreadsheets that
cover many of the design and engineering requirements associated with typical
projects.
Hyperlinks are provided to help select the topics that are relevant to
the project being reviewed. Included
are "rule of thumb" equipment capacities and system flow rates,
general constructability, and "spot-checks" of plumbing and pipe
sizes.

Expanded Description
The eBook contains detailed review items for: Plumbing
Plan Review, Plumbing Schedules Sheets, Plumbing Piping Diagrams, Plumbing
Detail Drawings, Plumbing Building Code Items, Coordination Between Disciplines,
and several check figures sheets. Also included are Plumbing Design Review
Calculations Spreadsheets.
One section, "Plumbing Detail
Sheets", contains over 28 pages of review items for over 33 types of
plumbing equipment. Review is arranged alphabetically by equipment type.
The "Coordination Between Disciplines" section includes: Architect
and/or Owner Coordination, Structural Engineer Coordination, Mechanical Engineer
Coordination, Plumbing Coordination, Civil Engineering Coordination, and
Electrical Engineering Coordination.
The Plumbing Design Review Guide
could save the Project Manager/Project Engineer hundreds of hours in correcting
errors or omissions that come up during construction. Just one item, such
as: "a
Verify
that Footings and Grade Beams are
not directly below Plumbing Fixture outlets,
Floor Drains ,
Floor Sinks ,
Plumbing Chases ,
or pipe drops, such as Storm Drains and
Overflow Drains .
Verify coordination with pipes at Columns ,
such as Sanitary Vents and Trap Primer water
pipes, to avoid conflicts with Footings at Columns.
",
could
save hundreds or thousands of dollars in change orders during construction.
Also provided are "rough estimate" guides to check against the values
listed on the drawings. For example: "Estimate
pump total head pressure and compare with scheduled head pressure.
For rough estimate, measure distance of longest pipe run (out and back),
count elbows and tees – allow approximately 10 feet equivalent for each elbow
and tee, add approximately 20 feet equivalent for valves and balancing devices.
Total the measured length (out and back) and equivalent lengths and
multiply by an average 4 ft. head per 100 ft. equivalent length.
Add to this number an additional 10 ft. head for: control valve (or other
flow control device), boiler, and balancing valve losses.
Calculation summary: ((Length of longest pipe out and back + (# elbows
and tees X 10’ each) + 20’) X (4 ft./100)) + 10 ft. = approximate pump head
pressure."
